Today I made cookies with my daughter Poppy for the first time. My wife Emma was working today at the local school so I thought it was a great opportunity to do something different with poppy, something special that I can do well with her, so cookies it was. I used a recipe that did not even need me to go to the shops as you should find all the ingredient in your fridge or cupboard.
Ingredients
225g softened butter or marg
110g sugar white/brown/castor it really does not matter what ever you’ve got
275g Plain Flour
2 tbsp of porridge oats
The zest of 1 orange or satsuma
50g of chocolate buttons or as poppy would say choc choc !
Method
Place the butter into a bowl and mix to soften so it is light and fluffy about a minute should do
Add the sugar and mix together
Add the flour and the zest
Mix together gently and then add the choc choc
Then turn the cookie mix out onto a work surface and scrunch together to form a pastry like dough
Cut off a lump of dough about a marble size and place it on a baking tray lined with grease proof paper
Get your kids to squash the dough into a cookie shape and then place in the oven and cook for approximately 10-12 minutes until golden brown
Leave to cool and enjoy your labour with the kids, I think its important to let your kids see you eat the cookies as well as then it might encourage them to eat what you have cooked in the future
This cookie dough with keep in the fridge all week, so there is no reason why you could not make a batch up at the start of the week and continue using it throughout. So why not leave the playdough in the tub because they can eat this dough and you know what’s gone in it.
Please let me know how you and your kids get on !!!!!
